Handbag Heaven

The following paragraphs will discuss designer handbags, as well as provide some useful information to women contemplating purchasing one.

Since most women are going to continue buying handbags through out their lives, most believe it is best to invest some money into a designer bag of value, and not invest it in a less expensive imitation. The following paragraphs will discuss designer handbags, as well as provide some useful information to women contemplating purchasing one.

Many girls and woman decide to purchase a designer handbag in order to make a fashion statement, or bolster their image. Designer handbags act as proof of respect to those around you, as well as proof of respect to yourself.

Purchasing an original designer handbag is the only way to ensure you are getting the most for your money.

When you are trying to choose a designer handbag to purchase for yourself, remember that handbags should be practical items to hold the possessions of women and girls. This fact is so easy to forget when we are shopping for designer handbags, as some of the more impractical handbags are the most beautiful.

Also, be sure you understand the return policy provided by the seller. If you fail to do these things, you may end up with a counterfeit designer handbag, and a trip to civil court. It is best to be safe ... before you end up sorry.

The problem most woman and girls have when shopping for a designer handbag is they really cannot afford the purchase, as a designer handbag can be very costly. Although this can be a problem that prevents some woman from making their purchase, many women have found reasonable solutions to this problem.

When you purchase your new designer handbag this way, you may have to wait a while before it comes back into season. However, the money you save will make the wait worth it.

Finally, if you cannot afford to outright purchase a new designer handbag , you have the option to save up in order to make the purchase. By saving up your money before purchasing your new designer handbag , you will be enabling yourself to make the purchase without setting yourself back financially.

Forget fighting the crowds at the malls, as well as snobby sales people. Many women and girls are now choosing to do their designer handbag shopping via their home computers, thus saving them time and money in most cases.

Even if you do not think it is within your budget to purchase designer handbags, it may be more than possible. By using the tips and advice above, any woman can be the proud owner of a new and stunning handbag.

Mamas Got a Brand New Bag

TANO bag large shopper style 2050

from DJournal
By ADAM ARMOUR
Staff Writer

Closet and drawers overflowing with purses and handbags? This weekend presents a quick, charitable solution to saving space on space savers.

The Mamas Got a Brand New Bag designer purse fundraiser auction will be held next weekend during the Gumtree Festival in Tupelo. Co-conceived by Dorsey resident Maggie Atwood and her friend Rhonda Herring, the auction will feature a number of designer purses up for grabs, and all proceeds will go to benefit the Northeast Mississippi branch of SAFE, an organization that aids victims of domestic abuse.

The auction will take place on May 10, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. at 211 Court Street in Tupelo. The format is that of a silent auction, where purses will be on display with bid sheets for each. Participants are encouraged to write down an offer early, then return toward the auction’s close to see if they’ve been outbid.

Donations of slightly used designer purses are currently being accepted by the Mama’s Got a Brand New Bag organization. Dropoff points are currently set up at building two of the Tupelo Furniture Market and BancorpSouth’s downtown Tupelo location. All donations are tax deductible, and tax deduction forms will be available.

According to Atwood, the event itself will be very upscale — an intimate fundraising event fitting the class and sophistication of the items being auctioned. “This is not going to be a ‘yard sale’ type event,” she explained. “It will fun and professionally done — first class.” She stressed that every dime made at the auction would be given to SAFE and used to help the victims of domestic violence in Northeast Mississippi, including Itawamba County. Atwood added that each purse contains information about SAFE inside it. “We need help,” Atwood said. “We’re asking everyone to search their closets and donate any gently used purses they may have, and then spread the word to all their friends. Before you know it, we can really make a difference.”

**All it takes**

Within 24 hours, Atwood and Herring really had something going. The phone was ringing off the hook with donors; a local advertising agency had agreed to sponsor all the event’s promotion free-of-charge and the purses began rolling in, without the benefit of such advertising.

It all started the day prior with a couple of full closets and one big idea. “We love purses, but we realized that we had an abundance of them that were in the top of the closet never getting used,” Atwood said of herself and Herring, stating that their original plan was to hold a friendly purse swap to freshen their collections. But the longer the two friends, who both try to stay active in their communities, thought about their purses, the more they realized that their abundant collections could be put to better use.

“SAFE is an often neglected organization,” Atwood said “The thought of a mother and child having to leave their home in the middle of the night in a battered situation really hits my heart.” According to Atwood, word of their project spread quickly. Within days, the organization had collected more than five-dozen purses for its cause without a bit of advertising — all of it through word-of-mouth. Atwood said that she and her friend were caught off-guard by the response. “It’s amazing that people care so much,” Atwood said. “It’s just hit us how overwhelming and how powerful this whole thing has been, and how seriously people are taking it. This isn’t something people doubted would happen.”

There’s a theme of togetherness casting its shadow across the event — the idea that it doesn’t take big people and big organization’s to create big ideas, which is something that Atwood enjoys stressing. “Part of what we want everybody to understand is all it takes is two people who are dedicated and passionate about something,” Atwood said of the fundraiser. “For us, it just took the decision we were going to do it, and we’ve been full-force ever since.”

Maintaining the small feel of the event is pertinent to the event itself, as it mirrors the importance of the cause in a more intimate way. “We’ve decided to keep [the fundraiser] small because this represents something very personal for us,” she stated. “We want to keep this very top-notch.” She added that, if the event is a success, the two friends will bring it back next year, possibly to benefit another organization.

How To Find The Perfect Handbag

By Mary Olaya

Let's be honest. These days there are hundreds of handbag styles to choose from. So as a consumer, where do you begin? Do you follow the fashion experts? Does the latest It handbag necessarily mean you must have that bag this season? Do you choose one that compliments your figure and works well with your wardrobe? Or do you choose quality with an affordable price tag?

Well, the answer is Yes - for all of the above. But there are also other factors to consider too.

Trying on a handbag is just as important as trying on clothes. Where your handbag rests will actually draw the most attention. If someone is glammed up, the first detail others will notice is accessories, most likely your handbag. A handbag can make or break your look.

The most important factor to consider when choosing the right handbag for your body type is Size and Shape. That choice is more difficult for tiny and shorter ladies.

Small and classic handbag shapes generally work best. Focus on smaller handbags that fit tightly and comfortably underneath your shoulder. It's all about proportion. Stay away from large, rectangular shapes. Small shoulder handbags are a great alternative. They work perfectly with figure proportions and add length to the body and arms. More defined round shapes, such as the gaucho & silverado styles, work too.

Also consider the handles and their positioning. The handle drop should not have too much. A handbag that sits below your hips will make you appear shorter. If you need a sling/messenger bag, be sure the shoulder strap is adjustable and let the bag rest near your hips and no lower. Avoid oversized, bulky bags unless you need an overnight or weekender. Big sizes will not flatter your shape.

Another perfect alternative is clutches. Go for different colours and styles. Clutches are versatile during the day and will carry all your necessities in the evening.

There are also limitations for taller ladies. Although they have a height advantage, some styles still won't work. If you're tall or slim, your long limbs work well for more rectangular and square structured shapes, such as motorcycle and paddington styles.

If you're not already a fan of oversized bags, get cracking. Oversized handbag are definitely - In. Fashion has embraced the oversized trend in handbags and clothing lately. What's the best tip? It's what our parents told us for years. Less is more. So consider a bag that's not too oversized. Don't go over the top. Go for box styles or rectangular shapes. The biggest blunder many make with these styles is practicality. Never carry an oversized bag empty. Oversized bags look flat and empty with just your wallet and keys inside. Use these bags as a useful shopping tote. Now, that's just plain easy.

Never let an oversized shoulder bag sit pass your hips. Straps should be short or adjustable. Not only will the bag look better, but its weight won't put pressure on your lower back. It's important for you to move comfortably and easily.

Let the handbag speak for itself. Do the inside compartments hold all your necessary essentials? Do you like its style and overall look? In the end, you have to be happy. After all, a handbag should be a girl's best accessory, not a burden.

history of handbags

from World of Fashion

If we were to trace the origin of handbags, women would likely be surprised to know that they were first utilized by a group of men some 2000 years ago. Although wholesale handbags were not in the scene at this time, men in biblical times did indeed carry the equivalent of what we consider to be the handbags of today.

This practice came to women’s knowledge and from then on, its handbags became completely indispensable. Handbags, purses, or any other kinds of totes will forever be a part of women’s wardrobes. Although some men continue to don handbags occasionally, women have dominated the scene in the handbag industry. No outfit can stand alone without a matching handbag. By far, handbags have encapsulated women’s fashion ever since the first modern versions appeared in France.

Nowadays, handbags were everywhere. Thousands of handbags of all imaginable styles and designs are on the market. Apparently, each kind has found its use in the wardrobe of every woman. And yet, with the overwhelming number of handbags that has emerged year after year and grabbed up by female consumers, there are still many, many more soon to invade women’s fashionable wardrobes. Moreover, handbags designers are proliferating.

From a non-designer label to outrageously priced designer handbags, from a simple and plain masterpiece to shiny and elegantly embroidered handbags, the fashion industry will never cease to crank out new handbags for the market

Ten Healthy Handbag Essentials

by Allison Van Dusen, Forbes

A woman's handbag can say a lot about her--and, it turns out, her health.

Take, for instance, the woman who carries a designer bag adorned with metal buckles and contains a stash of rarely used makeup, candy and a wallet stuffed with receipts. Not only is she spending energy toting things she doesn't need, but she's wasting space that could have been filled with refueling snacks, vitamins or sunscreen.

"There's a lot of room in some of these handbags, so people fill [them] up," says Caroline Dorsen, an advanced certified nurse practitioner and coordinator of the Adult Nurse Practitioner Program at New York University's College of Nursing. "I tell my patients to think about carrying things that will really make a difference in their health."

Women who think of their purses only as places to hold keys and money are missing out on an opportunity to both prevent and address health problems ranging from depression to obesity, says Dorsen. While many concentrate on keeping up with the latest types of life-saving surgical techniques and treatments, people are much better off focusing on the little things they can do every day to feel good.

That means keeping on top of scheduling annual physicals, as well as mammograms, pap smears and bone-density screenings. Any easy way to do this is to take a minute to type up a health-record document listing the last time you had these tests to keep in your purse. Some state health departments also offer small booklets in which you can store the data. While you're at it, you might as well include details like your cholesterol levels and doctors' numbers.

"This is not information you need every day," Dorsen says. "It's not like you get on the bus and someone is going to ask you what your bad-cholesterol level is. But overall, this will help you take care of yourself. The more you know about your health, the better."

If you've ever had an allergic reaction or a severe headache while on the go, you probably wished you kept a dose of medication in your handbag instead of all those pens. Dr. Jennifer Wider, a Connecticut-based physician and medical adviser for the Society for Women's Health Research, recommends carrying a few allergy pills, as well as acetaminophen, ibuprofen and a few antacids, just in case.

Her favorite health product for any purse is antibacterial hand gel, which can lower you and your family members' chances of transmitting a bacterial virus, especially during flu season.

"You don't have to use it constantly," Wider says. "But if you're in public places, it's worth throwing this into your handbag."

Weight Of The World
Wider says studies have shown that women tend to be in charge of the health care of their whole families, including their partner, husband, children and even aging parents--so it pays to be prepared.

But beyond what's in your bag, it's worth paying attention to how much you're carrying.

Dr. Jane Sadler, a family-practice physician on staff at Baylor Medical Center at Garland, Texas, says when female patients lugging huge bags come to her office, she asks if they're by any chance having neck pain, headaches or numbness down their fingers. The answer is often yes. To illustrate the problem, Sadler weighs the purses, which have clocked in at as heavy as 12 pounds.

A heavy purse will pull down on your body, causing you to lift your shoulder to keep the bag in place. That can cause muscle spasms as well as neck pressure. Over time, you could develop arthritis of the neck and spine similar to the overuse injuries athletes experience.

"If you're carrying more than three pounds, you're carrying too much," says Sadler, who suggests regularly alternating shoulders in addition to unloading some of that stash.

Sadler recommends getting rid of anything you haven't used in the last month. And while you're at it, clean the outside of your purse, which could be covered in germs from touching the floors of public restrooms, restaurants, hair salons and wherever else you've been.

"Be careful," says Sadler. "You want to make sure you're not carrying around a Petri dish."
(Blog Editor's Comment: We hope this article makes you think twice about "renting" a designer handbag which was used by a stranger before you use it.)

When the handbag makes the woman

By Pamela Sitt The Seattle Times

This season, bags are huge — and we don't mean in a Mary-Kate Olsen-could-fit-inside kind of way. Handbags as an accessory have enjoyed "it" status since Hollywood starlets started flaunting their Balenciaga in the pages of Us Weekly, but apparently they are now big enough to (figuratively) eclipse an entire outfit.

"The last three seasons, jewelry has been the dominator. Now jewelry is starting to dip off, and the bag is the next thing," says Alex Matthews, director of Thread, a traveling showcase for independent fashion designers. "It's always been there, but it was more of an accessory, an enhancement. Now the bag is becoming the centerpiece of the outfit. People are going to be dressing around their bags."

(Next season: Burlap bags are the Next Big Thing as bags become the outfit! You heard it here first.)

We checked in with a handbagful of the 70 independent designers on the Thread tour. For a complete list of participating clothing and accessory designers, visit threadshow.

A LITTLE BAG WILL DO YA
Her Web site is SabrinaLovesBags, and handbag designer Sabrina Love Rodriguez readily confesses to a lifelong weakness for a smartly turned-out accessory.

"Bags have always been my shoes," Rodriguez says. "It's easy to use a bag as a fun pop and piece of pizazz to an otherwise conservative outfit. ... I think a bag is a way to express yourself and add a little fun."

The former stylist and costume-designer creates vintage-inspired clutches in patent leather with a nod to old Hollywood glamour. The idea being: Less is more. "I really believe in keeping things simple," she says. "In a way, carrying a smaller bag forces you to simplify and carry the necessities. A lot of women don't believe you can fit your life into a clutch."

And if you happen to be one of those women, look at it this way — you can always just use the clutch as a wallet. Sabrina Love Handbags retail for about $200-$230.

CARRYIN' O' THE GREEN
At Alchemy Goods, you get the feeling you're not just investing in a bag — rather, a way of life. The company's recycled messenger bags deliver a message, or at least a motto: turning useless into useful.

"I think more and more people are voting with their dollars. They are using something like a bag to show their values," says company founder Eli Reich. "When people decide to buy our bags, they are making a statement that locally made is important to them and that the environment is important to them."

Plus, bags made from recycled inner tubes and old seat-belt straps are fun to look at and are surefire conversation starters — "Is that a used bicycle tube, or are you just glad to see me?" — so really, do you need another excuse to shop? Well, here's one more: "I think more and more people are carrying things, and if you have to carry things, why not put it in a good-looking bag?" Reich says.

A DRY SENSIBILITY
The laptop says modern-professional, but the laptop bag screams retro-fabulous. "I'm always thinking about the waterproof factor because it rains constantly here," says Michelle Kline, creator of Snap Design. "Personally, I need a bag that can take some schlepping around in the rain."

And during a big downpour, don't we all?

Kline produces the no-frills, unisex vinyl laptop bags using bright colors and geometric shapes. In other words: a bright spot in an otherwise dreary, winter day.

HIPNESS FOR YOUR HIPS
A fanny pack by any other name? Designer Maggie Lee prefers Hipbagz. With a Z. "The [phrase] 'fanny pack' is so laden with negative connotations, so I decided to give them a new name," says Lee. "They really are a whole new thing, anyway. These are really different."

Believe it or not, Hipbagz are actually stylish and don't resemble anything worn by your average tourist. Lee came up with the idea when her mom insisted that she wear a fanny pack on a trip to Barcelona.

"I was like, 'I am not doing that. I can't be in a fashionable place wearing a fanny pack,'" she recalls.

Finding a gap — more like a canyon — in the fashionable-fanny-pack market, Lee decided to fill it. Her line of leather, detachable Hipbagz launched at Fashion Week in Los Angeles this year and is available for $109-$169.

The designer herself frequently finds use for the bags even when she's not traveling abroad: "There were probably four days in a row where I used one — I was going to Vegas one time, and then I was going to a concert and didn't want to stuff my pockets. I figured there are other people who are looking for this kind of item. ... PDAs are really big now, and people want them on their body." Giving a whole new meaning to "hands-free device."

Blog Editor Comment: If you are looking for a reasonable price, high quality and a variety of styles, sizes and designs, buy a Tano Handbag.
